Hot Topics, Misperceptions and Frequently Asked Questions in Serving Students with Dyslexia in our Schools

October 11th, 2024 1:00PM - 3:00PM

Over the years, things have changed in the science of reading, and the neuroscience of dyslexia. As a California Department of Education (CDE), Diagnostic Center, the DCC hosts a Science of Reading Academy series, three times yearly Dyslexia Forum, and individual workshops from "The Vital Role of Building Language in Early Childhood" to "Assisting Older Struggling Readers." The DCC serves schools and communities that are large, small, rural, and urban… and students ages 3 to 21. Along the way, we learn from families, schools, teachers, and students… and encounter questions too!

We've decided to dedicate one Dyslexia Forum to simply addressing the common questions that come our way. Our fall DCC Dyslexia Forum will again be held during October, Dyslexia Awareness Month. Join us online from 1:00PM - 3:00PM on October 11th, and when you register, add your own question if you'd like!

We'll touch on varied language/literacy dilemmas (which may include vocabulary, phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, comprehension, written language, executive functioning or Multi-Tier System of Support [MTSS] screening, assessment, scaffolding and supports). The final agenda will only be set once registrant's questions are in! To ensure more than just brief responses, varied evidence-based resources and supports will be included, along with Dyslexia Awareness month info and events!

Registration is now closed.
